New goal: Develop a java program

There’s one thing I hate about being a technopile, I seem to have an ADHD for technology. By ADHD, I mean, I have an attention deficit disorder because a newer technology always takes my attention away from my current gadget or hobby. For example, I few months back, I was so interested in web design. I wanted to make my own wordpress theme for this blog. I studied all the how-tos and searched google far and wide. I was getting pretty close too. I already have a PSD file from photoshop but the only problem I’ve encountered was converting psd to wordpress template. I had a hard time making it compatible with all three popular browsers: internet explorer, firefox, and chrome.

Anyways, to make a long story short, after a few months, I got tired of the project and am now currently into mobile phones. I’ve been through two or three smartphones in the span of only three months. I am now currently obsessed with studying java programming and making my first java program. I’m just starting and it’s not like I’m going to apply for a job in a software development Ukraine company…Although, that’s not such a bad idea. I mean, who knows, I might actually develop a popular java game.

Study confirms: iPhone is addictive

Now do we really need to have a study for this? A Stanford University survey revealed that iPhone owners are rely heavily on their handsets while those who are not addicted express worry that they might be.

The survey was conducted on 200 students with iPhones. Some of the interesting points of the survey include:

1) 41 percent of owners surveyed says that losing their iPhone would be a “tragedy”
2) 3 percent of people surveyed says they don’t let anyone touch their iPhones
3) 3 percent have named their iPhones
4) 9 percent have patted their iPhones
5) 8 percent have thought “my iPod is jealous of my iPhone”
6) 74 percent of people surveyed says that owning an iPhone made them “feel cool”.

HTC Legend, Desire, and HD Mini now available for pre-order at Amazon UK

Our British brothers across the pond are lucky. HTC’s newest smartphone are now available for pre-order on Amazon UK and the earliest availability for these mobile phones is April 1st.

HTC’s powerhouse smartphone, the HTC Desire is first to be available on April 1st. It has a pre-order price of £528.68. It packs a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, HTC Sense, capacitive touchscreen, and Android 2.1. Oh yeah, initial reports also say that it has Adoble Flash built into it.

The HTC Legend, successor of the HTC Hero has a pre-order price of £399.99 and will also be available come April 1st. This smartphone has an aluminum unibody, capacitive touchscreen, HTC Sense, and Android 2.1.

The HTC HD Mini will have a later availability which is set at April 14. The HTC HD Mini is a miniaturized version of the earlier HTC HD (not the HD2) but with a slightly faster processor and bigger memory. Pre-order price of the HTC HD Mini is £369.00.

If you’re a road warrior, chances are, you’ll be missing your PC a lot. Sure, you can always bring a laptop or a smartphone but there are some programs/files on your PC that can’t be put on your smartphone or laptop. So, how can you bring your PC with you on your travels? Two words: Remote Access

Remote Access allows you to control your desktop PC from another device, say a laptop or smartphone, or another PC altogether. So here are some ways to access your PC remotely:

THROUGH A SMARTPHONE

Smartphones such as the iPhone, an Android phone or a Windows Mobile device has some apps which can help you remotely access your PC through your phone. The good news is that most of these apps are free, the bad news is that its features are limited

THROUGH A PROGRAM

Now if you have a laptop and want access to your desktop you can access your PC through RDP, VNC. RDP is mostly for windows xp PCs while VNC is platform independent so you can remotely access your iMac on a laptop running a VNC client.

If you run a tech support business or if your business has a tech support department, there are software such as Proxy Pro 6 which gives better security through a 256 bit encryption.

Choosing the best ways for remote access would ultimately depend on your needs.

LG’s Windows Phone 7 Series prototype

Can you say awesomeness? Over at engadget, they’ve just revealed LG’s prototype of a Windows Phone 7 series handset. The mobile phone is kinda like the droid, with a slide-out QWERTY pad sans the chin, and a 5 megapixel camera.

Head on over to the link to watch the videos and prepare to chuck your Droid out the window. Earliest Windows Phone 7 Series we’ll probably see is around September this year.

Google Nexus One UK has multitouch

Okay, as as most of you may have heard, Google launched its own phone with its own branding: The Google Nexus One. In the US, the Google Nexus One can be bought at Google’s website, unlocked or with a T-Mobile contract. In the UK, the Google Nexus One is apparently headed for Vodafone. But how true is it that like the Droid, the Google Nexus One seems to sport multitouch while that feature is missing here in the US Nexus Ones?

Actually, no one in Europe has confirmed that the Google Nexus one supports multitouch but what is confirmed is that if you want that multitouch feature, you can download the dolphin browser which supports it. Of course, the pinch-zoom feature will still be absent in the picture gallery.

Well, whether it supports multitouch or not, the Google Nexus One is one pretty smartphone.

So, you want a new phone but can’t decide what to get? Should you get a slider, a touchscreen, a candybar, a smartphone? If you’re confused about the mobile phone jargon, fear not, there’s a wiki for that. The Wii Phone

Okay, so it seems that Sony Ericsson put their PSP phone in the back burner for: a Wii phone? Well, it seems like a good strategy, jump the gun on Nintendo before they decide to enter the mobile phone market. Anyways, the Sony Ericsson Yari has a Wii-like game interface. It makes use of the front camera as a motion sensor and translates your movements into game movements. The Sony Ericsson Yari also has accelerometer-based games.

It’s actually pretty interesting and the promo video shows you can actually play your phone in public without looking like a lunatic, provided of course that you have a friend with you, otherwise if your playing your phone alone…well, there’s a good chance people would mistake you for someone who escaped the loony bin.

Basic Search Engine Optimisation

I’m getting a little bit of traffic to my blog and it’s all thanks to some search engine optimisation. As I’ve mentioned before, there’s a bit of basic SEO you can do to get a few visitors to your site. Granting that there may be hundreds of other websites like yours on the net, you can land somewhere in the second page with a bit of work.

First, you need to get yourself listed in some search engines like Google and Yahoo. You have to submit your website to Google, Yahoo, Bing’s, etc directory. After that you need to do some link baiting. It means you need to create great content so other websites link to you. The more links your site has, the more chance your website will get noticed by the search engines.

So those are the first two things you need to do. If you do that, around a month, you’ll see results. I’ll put in a few more tips in the future.
