My Favorite Nintendo DS Homebrew Applications

I’ve recently purchased an r4 revolution for ds, no not for pirating purposes (I know my laws) but so that I won’t have to be envious of my friends who owns a PSP and are using their PSPs as portable multimedia players. The Nintendo DS is a really great console but I don’t know why Nintendo felt the need to remove the microSD card on the second generation DS. Anyways, if you’re new to the homebrew scene, an r4 sdhc would allow you to run music, videos and custom applications on Nintendo DS to make it cooler. Here are some of my favorite applications:

NDSMail

This is an email client for the Nintendo DS. Let’s face it, Nintendo did a bad job when it did not think of including a microSD card on the DS Lite or an internal memory. What use would the WiFi be? Anyways, the NDSMail supports SSL and is pretty useful for checking my email when I’m in a hotspot.

DSOrganize

Another gripe about the Nintendo DS is that it doesn’t have a web browser. Again, another plus for PSP users. But thanks to homebrew application developers, they’ve come up pwith DSOrganize that has a calculator, an IRC client, and a good web browser. Thanks guys for making my DS more functional.

Ands-PDF

I read a lot of ebooks in PDF formats. I know my PDA can read one but if I already have my DS out, I want to read PDF files on my DS too. Thanks to Ands-PDF, I’m able to utilize my Nintendo DS as a PDF reader.

Colors

My favorite way to pass the time. I’m no artist but I like the art that I’m able to make with this baby. This application is pressure sensitive so you can have more control about how dark your colors are. If you’re a budding artist with a DS, this is a must-have application for you.
