Google Nexus One UK has multitouch

Okay, as as most of you may have heard, Google launched its own phone with its own branding: The Google Nexus One. In the US, the Google Nexus One can be bought at Google’s website, unlocked or with a T-Mobile contract. In the UK, the Google Nexus One is apparently headed for Vodafone. But how true is it that like the Droid, the Google Nexus One seems to sport multitouch while that feature is missing here in the US Nexus Ones?

Actually, no one in Europe has confirmed that the Google Nexus one supports multitouch but what is confirmed is that if you want that multitouch feature, you can download the dolphin browser which supports it. Of course, the pinch-zoom feature will still be absent in the picture gallery.

Well, whether it supports multitouch or not, the Google Nexus One is one pretty smartphone.

New Verbatim 2010 Portable drives

I remember the brand Verbatim back when diskettes were the only medium of storage we know of and 1MB of space seems a lot. Verbatim always offers reliable media solutions. Now floppy drives are almost obsolete but Verbatim DVD-R and Verbatim CD-R are still the brand of choice. The company also has Blu-ray storage solutions for those who have embraced this technology. Aside from offering optical media solutions, Verbatim no has portable drives and this year, they’ve introduced new sleek and slim portable drive designs.

The Verbatim Titan XS is, according to Verbatim, the smallest 2.5”portable USB hard drive. Aside from being small, the Verbatim Titan XS has a rubber enclosure to make it more durable and ideal for mobile computing.

The Verbatim Insight is also a very innovative hard drive solution which has a LED display and Always On technology which enables to display it the available disk space even when disconnected from the PC. This device includes a Backup software which has full system/backup restore functions.

Mobile Phones 101

So, you want a new phone but can’t decide what to get? Should you get a slider, a touchscreen, a candybar, a smartphone? If you’re confused about the mobile phone jargon, fear not, there’s a wiki for that. Shopwiki has a fashionable mobile phone buying guide, and as what the title of the webpage infers, it’s a guide on how to buy the right kind of mobile phone for you. Of course, I think that Shopwiki should update their webpage a bit because some of the mobile phones featured are actually outdated. But anyways, you’ll get the idea on what to look for.

And if you don’t want to stop at just buying a mobile phone, there are also some guides on what kind of mobile phone accessories should you buy, e.g. Bluetooth headsets, mobile phone cases, holders, etc.

For me, the top 3 must have mobile phone accessories include: Cases, headsets, and screen protector (if you’re buying a touchscreen phone).

The Wii Phone

Okay, so it seems that Sony Ericsson put their PSP phone in the back burner for: a Wii phone? Well, it seems like a good strategy, jump the gun on Nintendo before they decide to enter the mobile phone market. Anyways, the Sony Ericsson Yari has a Wii-like game interface. It makes use of the front camera as a motion sensor and translates your movements into game movements. The Sony Ericsson Yari also has accelerometer-based games.

It’s actually pretty interesting and the promo video shows you can actually play your phone in public without looking like a lunatic, provided of course that you have a friend with you, otherwise if your playing your phone alone…well, there’s a good chance people would mistake you for someone who escaped the loony bin.

Basic Search Engine Optimisation

I’m getting a little bit of traffic to my blog and it’s all thanks to some search engine optimisation. As I’ve mentioned before, there’s a bit of basic SEO you can do to get a few visitors to your site. Granting that there may be hundreds of other websites like yours on the net, you can land somewhere in the second page with a bit of work.

First, you need to get yourself listed in some search engines like Google and Yahoo. You have to submit your website to Google, Yahoo, Bing’s, etc directory. After that you need to do some link baiting. It means you need to create great content so other websites link to you. The more links your site has, the more chance your website will get noticed by the search engines.

So those are the first two things you need to do. If you do that, around a month, you’ll see results. I’ll put in a few more tips in the future.

Sole Power Tile to be showcased at Greenbuild 2009

If you’re in Phoenix between November 10 to November 13, you might want to visit the Greenbuild Convention and visit The SRS Energy/US Tile booth to get a look at the Sole Power Tile.

The Sole Power Tile is is the first to integrate solar panels with the barrel-style roof lines. Now treehuggers won’t have to sacrifice their house aesthetics since Sole Power Tiles would blend in nicely with traditional barrel tiles.

Greenbuild is the world’s largest conference dedicated to green building.

GPS Blogs

As a tech blogger, I tend to visit some niche tech blogs so I can get much more updated news. Niche tech blogs include mobile phone blogs, laptop blogs, and if you want to be more specific, there are also blogs for SPECIFIC technologies such as a mobile phone model or model of laptop.

I’ve recently come upon some sort of GPS blog or a website that covers vehicle tracking systems news. It’s not so much as they cover the latest technology in GPS but this blog covers the benefits of GPS. Wow, who knew that a GPS can do more than prevent you from getting lost, or that its benefits extend beyond stalking your ex.

Companies thinking of investing in a vehicle tracking system should definitely visit this website so that they can see how their investment in vehicle tracking would benefit them in the future.

Nokia N900 vs. HTC HD2

Okay, so it’s that time of the year where I chuck out my old mobile phone and spend a ridiculous amount of money for something new. This year, my Christmas gift to myself would be a choice between the Nokia N900 and the HTC HD2. Now both mobile phones are equally state-of-the-art.

The Nokia N900 will have the Maemo OS. From the Nokia N900 videos I’ve seen on YouTube, this mobile phone is WAAAAYYY better than the Nokia N97 plus it boasts of full internet browsing. Now I really do need full internet browsing and I need to view flash on the browser. The N900 promises all that plus a very nice UI. The problem? Hardware-wise, the N900 doesn’t offer anything new. In fact, the Samsung B7610 has equal amount of processing power.

On the other hand, the HTC HD2 has the latest 1GHz processor. Not to mention that it has a capacitive 4.3 inches touchscreen, and is multitouch capable. Best of all (or unfortunately, depending on which side of the fence you’re on), it’s running Windows Mobile. From the several HTC HD2 review I’ve read, a lot of people seem to like it. So which should I choose?

I’m currently leaning towards the HTC HD2 because of the latest hardware. And it also seems probable that the HTC HD2 will be futureproof for Windows Mobile 7. I’ll let you know on what mobile phone I’ve eventually bought.

Relaxing Sounds for your Mobile phones

Our old white noise machine has lived up its useful life a couple of days ago. It was really too bad because it helps the children in the house sleep. I was thinking of purchasing another one or just download some white noise MP3s or relaxing sounds MP3s on the internet. Of course, with MP3s, you don’t actually control anything other than the volume.

A sound machine, on the other hand, have a variety of adjustments, you can widen the sound range, adjust frequency and tone, etc. There are some sound machines that also double as an alarm clock. However, there are also some software that mimics sound machines on mobile phones.

At the Blackberry App store, there’s a white noise app which mimics the sound of air conditioners, Beach shore, clock ticking, crickets, oscillating fan, rainfall, stream, and white noise. For Pocket PC or windows mobile users, Kai’s Relax Sound will do the job and it even has a trial version with three relaxing sounds available. For iPhone users, TMSoft also has a white noise app which includes sounds such as waves crashing, crickets, and rainfall.

Whether you want a dedicated white noise machine or just a simple application for a mobile phone, experts sleep experts and doctors have always recommended white noise to help people sleep.

The Ethics of Spy Software

Okay, so I’m a bit torn about computer spy software. Torn because for one thing, it’s totally inappropriate to spy on anyone’s PC but then again, it’s really useful for monitoring your kid’s internet activities.

So what do computer spy software actually do? Well, some computer spy software can capture any data on one PC like websites visited, passwords, keystrokes, chat history, etc. You can even view these data real time on another PC.

I think spy software like these are completely inappropriate especially if it involves capturing someone else’s passwords. I mean, it’s a password. If you get it without the owner’s permission, it’s like stealing. On the other hand, viewing recently visited websites is okay especially if you’re a worried parent. Now viewing chat history is like eavesdropping but some would say it’s okay especially if again, you’re a worried parent and your children may be chatting with a child predator or if you think your husband is cheating on you with someone online.

I guess the appropriateness or inappropriateness of computer spy software all boils down to ethics. What may be ethical to some may be unethical for others so in the end, you just have to go with what your conscience tells you.
